Maintaining attendance is important to support students' learning and growth in our school. Classes in-person on Sunday(including services), on Zoom Tuesday, our annual family education program, and our closing Friday night service, are all equally important components of our school year. Debbie Fruchtman and our dedicated teachers create their group and individual lesson plans based on the expected attendance, changes to this disrupt everyone's learning. We pride ourselves on working with families to meet their needs and have one of the most flexible and accommodating religious school teams in our area. The Education Committee has published an attendance policy to ensure a successful environment for all.
At Congregation Agudat Achim we believe that the aim of Jewish learning in childhood is to serve as the foundation of Jewish adulthood. We prioritize this education by offering tuition free religious school for synagogue members, while expecting that families in our school make an ongoing membership commitment to the synagogue. Simply learning the skills of reading Hebrew and the knowledge of Jewish History, Bible, Values etc. is not enough to create and maintain a Jewish identity. That requires community. We ask that all families make the commitment to participate monthly in religious programs and services outside of religious school. As our children grow so does the expectation of their participation; increasing regular service attendance and taking on leadership as they approach the celebration of their B'Mitzvah.
From time to time your child’s photo may be taken in our classrooms or special events. We use these photos in the synagogue bulletin, on our synagogue display boards, the Congregation Agudat Achim website as well as private Facebook groups and other publicity materials.
You may have noticed that at the top of the form we begin with family information. This is intentional. The work of raising and educating Jewish children cannot be done in the school alone, but is a project of the school, the family, and the community. You are not just registering your child(ren) for school today, but in fact your entire family. When you join our community and spend time learning and volunteering with us, you make a powerful statement to your child(ren) that Jewish learning is a lifelong process and that we are all on the same team in creating these experiences for them. Don’t underestimate the subtle power of this statement! We have events during the course of the year when parents are required to attend with students (for example: opening day, family learning days, closing Shabbat service). Please plan to join us on these days. In addition to those opportunities to participate we are in need of regular volunteers to make our school work. Would you consider supporting our school in an ongoing role or a limited engagement?
In Jewish tradition, it is the job not only of parents but of the community to provide education for children. Congregation Agudat Achim is committed to this obligation. As such, our religious school fee only covers the book/supply portion of the cost of our religious school.
By writing my name below, I/we agree and understand that I am (we are) responsible for the agreed upon fees and understand that due to necessary salary planning and budgeting for the year, the Synagogue does not prorate or offer refunds for fees. I/we also agree that I/we must remain a member(s) in good standing, having fulfilled all financial commitments to Congregation Agudat Achim in order to receive benefits of membership including religious school classes, High Holy Day tickets, and officiation and celebration of lifecycle events such as B'Mitzvah.
